DJ/Producer Disco D Commits Suicide

DJ and Entrepreneur Disco D committed suicide today at 27 years young. For those of you unfamiliar Disco D can be credited with (almost single-handedly) inspiring the current wave of ghettotech (Spankrock) and laptronica (Diplo) DJs. Of course he was only picking up where pioneers like Luke and Detroit Grand Pubahs left off but his own work spoke for itself and he found credibility where many had failed to find it before. Most recently he left the turn-tables to make time to produce records for 50 Cent and K-Fed while also working on remixes of Pharrell, Usher and Christina Milan.
While the rumormill is bound to churn, in this 2006 interview with the Montreal Mirror he was quoted as saying:
Shit, I ran around Detroit since I was 15, I ran around Kingston. I mean, dude, I’m bipolar, I tried to commit suicide twice, like, I’m not scared of anything, know what I’m sayin’? I don’t give a fuck, dude—to me, life’s a big video game.
He was so young, and seemed to be on top of the world but that goes to show: you never never know what another person is going through in life. He’ll truly be missed.
