Bombay Bicycle Club “The Hill”

You may not know about Bombay Bicycle Club right now but give them a few months and they’ll be dominating indie radio on both sides of the Atlantic. Their recent EP, THE BOY I USED TO BE is aptly titled (the guys are barely past their mid-teens) but they have a remarkable sound, galvanized by the uncanny vocals of frontman Jack Steadman. And I don’t mean to use the word ‘uncanny’ loosely, his singing style is so unique that it needs to be heard to be fully understood. It’s the kind of controlled vibrato that used to be a standard trick of No Doubt’s Gwen Stefani before she started wearing booty shorts and bling-blinging by the pool with Pharrell Williams.
The songs are instantly catchy and memorable, particularly “The Hill” and “Open House” stand out as personal favorites. You can listen to them at their MySpace.
