I created this during some downtime at the studio today…

This image was created using the Metropop, Atrractor and Particle applications in the Proce55ing environment. I’ve been playing with recoding the apps to do more than what they were originally written to do. The rest of the design was completed in Photoshop.

My inspiration was the Darren Arranofsky movie, The Fountain. In the movie the protagonist travels through space in an orb that carries the Tree of Life. I thought it would be interesting to create an orb that contained the universe itself. Stephen Hawking once theorized that the universe is spherical in shape much like Earth. Anyone living on the surface could easily (and did) assume that it was flat. Traveling from one side of the planet to another would never lead to an edge, thus you can never leave the planet by traveling along the surface. In the same way he suggested that the universe can never be left by ‘traveling along the surface’. The secret is another form of travel which we may never discover.
