Speed-Up Your Linux With Preload

At my studio I’ve got quite a few computers but my Linux machine I use for coding and torrenting. It’s a 7 year-old 513 Pavillion with 768Mb RAM, 1Ghz Celeron Processor and a new 320GB hard drive that I just installed. Needless to say, it’s SLOW! This tip from Techthrob cuts down on App load time…

Preload is an “adaptive readahead daemon” that runs in the background of your system, and observes what programs you use most often, caching them in order to speed up application load time. By using Preload, you can put unused RAM to good work, and improve the overall performance of your desktop system.

Preload, which you can download from SourceForge, is easy to install from the command-line:

sudo apt-get install preload
