Is Google Planning to Take On on 37 Signals?

The former company Jotspot, which was acquired by Google, has been redeployed as Google Sites a software aimed at “building communities online”. This is poised to put Google in direct competition with 37Signals suite of software that includes Campfire, Basecamp, Highrise and Backpack which GS resembles most. Google Sites is one extra piece to the the puzzle of unifying online solutions like Calendar, Docs, and Gmail for organizations. Will the next step be a project management solution?

What Google calls it:

Google Sites, a new offering from Google Apps, makes creating a team site as easy as editing a document. Use Google Sites to centralize all types of information — from videos to presentations — and share your site with just a few people, your entire organization, or the world.
